Health and Wellness: The Three R's

If you’re anything like me, or anything like most human beings, you really enjoy some quality relaxing time. An opportunity to relax, reflect, reset or even forget about the world for a little bit almost always sounds nice.
I’m sure you would agree with me that when it comes to our careers, our relationships, and the other important elements of our lives, it is very important to be intentional. If we are not intentional with what matters most, we won’t be able to achieve much or even appreciate what we’re doing in our lives. When it comes to your career, a lack of intention leads to doing most everything half-assed. When it comes to your relationships (whether platonic or romantic), a lack of intention leads to years and years of small talk rather than actually growing together.

Believe it or not, intention is just as important when it comes to your relaxing time. I would argue that some people may not even realize this yet, but we aren’t getting the relaxing time we desire because we are using entertainment and leisure to fill time in the day when we should be focused on other things. I’ve personally dealt with this myself and it leads me to feel upset, frustrated, and disappointed. Instead of answering emails with intention, I’ve tried to make it more relaxing by having Netflix in the background, and all that did was cause me to spend one hour replying to emails instead of 20 minutes. Then I feel upset, frustrated, and disappointed because I know I’ll never get that time back, AND I didn’t really get to enjoy those episodes of The Office because 50% of my attention was on the computer while the other 50% was on the TV.

Think about this for yourself. When do you try to occupy your mind with your Facebook or Instagram feed when you should be 100% present for something else. Take note during the day. Odds are you may not be too happy with yourself.

Anyway, the purpose of this article is to briefly discuss the three r’s. The three r’s are relax, reflect, and reset. Before going through these, I wanted to make sure I made it clear as to how important intention is. Without intention the three r’s are nothing. With intention, however, they can change the way you feel mentally and physically. Let’s take a closer look.
