As we all know, getting in shape and achieving better overall health is much more than working out. It involves taking care of your mental health, your diet, your relationships, and more. Unfortunately, not all of this is easy especially when it comes to making changes with your diet.

On the bright side, there are some tangible things that you can begin implementing to see a positive change whether you are trying to feel better, look better, move better, or a combination of the three.

Before we get into the nitty gritty, it’s important to note why making a change to your nutrition/diet can be so

challenging. Are you familiar with the phrase “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” It’s like that. You’ve been doing something one way your entire life. It’s a habit to drink orange juice instead of eating an

orange. It’s a habit to go for what’s easiest instead of what’s best. Good news is, you’re not a dog. You’re an intelligent human being that can learn new tricks. The key is starting small.

Tip #1: Start Small

When you are trying to introduce someone to something new, you start small, right? If you want your kid to begin eating more vegetables, you will most likely introduce him or her to something green and build up from there. Why not do the same for yourself? If it works, do it! Whatever it is you struggle with nutritionally simplify the change into its smallest form, then do it. Let’s go through an example. A year ago, a training client of mine scoffed at the idea of exercising. He didn’t want to have anything to do with it, but he was also sick and tired of being sick and tired. So, we started small. I could’ve given him 3 workouts to do per week, but that wasn’t small enough. We started with 3 walks per week outside of work. Then we built up to one short workout, then 3 short workouts, and so on. Now, he absolutely loves working out and is consistently training 4 days per week. You can do the same for your nutrition. The question is, how do you turn it into something that sticks? How do you turn it into a habit?
