Among the most exciting enhancements found on Precor’s latest Precision Series and Energy Series treadmills and ellipticals are the new consoles that allow the user to input data, monitor workout metrics, and track progress without missing a beat. The consoles come in two varieties, the 40 and 20, and mimic the look, feel, and performance of those used on Precor’s commercial grade equipment. Let’s take a peek under the hood to examine the digital innovations driving the new consoles.

Overview of 40 and 20 Consoles

The 40 console, which appears on such models as the TRM445, TRM243, and EFX447, is a state-of-the-art control center for your home workout. It comes with a gorgeous 7-inch LCD color display, SmartGrip tablet holder, full audio control for iPhone/iPad, and lever-style motion controls for adjusting incline, speed, ramp angle, or resistance. The 40 console serves as your gateway to the most customizable training programs, accurate metrics, and enjoyable workouts available in residential treadmills and ellipticals.

The 20 console is built into the TRM425, TRM223, EFX425, EFX423, and select other models. It packs the features and conveniences most desired in home fitness equipment, including a high-contrast LCD screen, tap-style dome keys, SmartGrip tablet holder, iPod/iPhone and Android volume control, and oversize water bottle and accessory holder, into a sleekly redesigned frame for a premium look and feel without any unnecessary extras.

The 40 console derives much of its functionality from touch-sensitive onscreen buttons known as “halos.” Just like smartphones and tablets, halos respond to capacitive touch rather than physical pressure, enabling them to provide a degree of accuracy and durability not possible with other input systems. In addition, halos illuminate whenever a button or option is active. This takes the guesswork out of making selections, and, when coupled with the console’s ergonomically molded shell, ups the ease of use factor regardless of whether the exerciser is at a standstill or in mid-stride.
