Diets always seem to start with a sense of dread because you think about all the thing you are giving up. Cake, ice cream, pies, sodas and more yummy treats all get weeded from the kitchen and replaced with healthier foods. It doesn't have to be that way. In fact, you are doing yourself a disservice if you say good bye to all the treats you used to enjoy. You might even be setting yourself up for failure.
It might be important for you to learn about the differences in a diet and a lifestyle change before you set yourself up to do either one. When you go on a diet, it's a temporary measure, usually to lose weight for a specific occasion. Before you do this, you should know that if you go on a diet and then go right back to the way you were living before the diet, you are going to gain back all the weight you lost and maybe even a bit more.
A change in lifestyle doesn't just offer weight loss on a temporary basis. It doesn't only involve food either. Your dietary habits and the amount of exercise you get both change, but not on a temporary basis. That's why you might even go as far as to buy some new workout equipment or maybe even create an exercise group with friends.
If you go on a temporary diet, you really are better off not to eat cake. After all, this is only a temporary situation and you are probably in a hurry to shed the pounds. A lifestyle change that involves ongoing weight loss and healthier living in general means that you can still eat cake. You just eat it like you eat everything else...in moderation.
When it comes to weight loss, it is actually a good idea to have a treat now and then. You need to be able to reward yourself. You also need to see that you are capable of eating one slice of cake rather than the entire cake. However, be warned that when you change from eating non-healthy food all the time to eating healthy foods all the time, you may not like the way your body feels when you eat something unhealthy.
